I had a bit of fun having a go at using 2nd curtain sync while on holiday recently. For what its worth I found that about 1/5 sec was the ideal exposure to freeze the motion and the subjuct nicely.

Stunning shot Mark. You really nailed the exposure-flash combo.
Just out of interest, would second curtain sync (scs) be preferable in this occasion? When the direction of movement of the subject is obvious (like a moving car) scs is for sure much better, but what about this case? I don't think it matters.
The question is just out of interest, it wouldn't matter for the shot. It is great anyways ;-).
