Nice scene and beautiful colors, Bob. Great use of foreground to add a dramatic sense of depth. I think I would be tempted to drop the top third of the sky to make the shot more panoramic and emphasize the vastness of the scene.

Wow, that was interesting, I uploaded with the new picture, but it gave me the original picture. I'll try it again. As I started to say, when I cropped it down, I started to lose a feeling about the picture, so this is where I stopped.

I like it better Bob! I wouldn't have cropped it any lower either, and maybe just a smiggen higher. This cropping puts the horizon in the 1/3rd line. I think it also increases the drama in the clouds. Nice!

Beautiful desert shot Bob! I grew up running around the Calif. deserts, and now that we live up here in the rainforest I really miss the smell of freshly rained on sagebush.

Can you be more specific about where the shot was taken? (Looks a bit like the China Lake area, but could be anywhere within a hundred miles of there..lol).

I like the second version better, as well. A beautiful shot.
The SoCal desert is amazing. I did some work in the Fremont Valley a couple of years ago, and was enchanted.

Thank you Bob. Been nearly 30 years since I've been down there, but still love the wide open spaces and
    freedom to roam.

Your pic really brings back some good memories. Thanks for sharing it.

Bob - Maybe it's just my old eyes, but the second version, which I too prefer, seems just a little softer and in need of a little sharpen, particularly on the foreground areas. But, that may be just an optical illusion, coupled with my age!

    Re: Desert Landscape

I'll see what sharpening can still be done, let you know.

I've been playing with masking layers, so yes, I can make the foreground pop more, but at the loss of background, and my limited experience with photoshop.

Donald, hereis another try. Worked with some masking layers and did some shapening.

I think I'm also reaching the limits of my camera/lens

Yep, I think that's got more 'pop' to it.

As others have said, it's some view.

    Wonderful landscape Bob !
This beautiful desert scene looks very exotic to someone coming from the foothills of the Pyrenees and the hedge-lined rolling green fields of southern England.
