    Hello from Belize, Central America

I was living in Oxford when I first discovered this website, and as I was interested in available light photography and about to move into digital, I chose my first DSLR (a Canon 5D) on the strength of it. I still have that camera, and to partner it a Canon 7D. Can't decide which I prefer. I subsequently learned (a little) about HDR, and believe that some of the best Cambridge pictures here must have been HDR. But sadly photographic opportunities where I now live are limited, because the light is too strong throughout the day, and dawn and dusk are so brief.

Peter - Hello and welcome. The only current active member, I think, from Belize - and maybe from Oxford too.

I hope you enjoy being part of the forum, which as you'll have seen, is about both having some fun and, more importantly perhaps, learning. I hope we can see some images from Belize.

From Belize I can believe, but surely not from Oxford too?! I was inspired by Sean's pictures of Cambridge, and when I bought my 5D I thought I'd try to do the same around Oxford. I realised several things - firstly, that taking those images so well is actually very difficult, and almost certainly involves HDR (I'd love to know for certain just how he produced them). Secondly, that Oxford although a lovely city in parts is not as photogenic as Cambridge. And thirdly, my life changed at around that time making photographing Oxford rather difficult.
