    Using Sony DSLR-a390

Does any one on this forum use a Sony DSLR-a390. I used to take photos with the Sony Cybershot cameras and most of the time I would get good photos, So one day I thought I would get a DSLR, So now the problem is the more I play with the settings the more I bugger up the photos. Get a DSLR everyone say's you will get great photos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi Wayne,

I like to think of a Formula 1 car as being a bit like an SLR camera -- no doubts that it has more potential than the average "sports car" (point and shoot camera).

Just wondering if you watch the UK edition of Top Gear?

Some time ago I saw an episode where Richard Hammond was given the chance to drive a Formula 1 car ... I'd like to think that if anyone could make a 1/2 decent attempt at it, if would be someone like Richard, who is used to driving & testing high-performance cars ... so how did he do?

Take a look for yourself ...

The moral of the story? Hang in there - with perseverence and practice things will get much better

    Hi Wayne

I use the SONY a390 for almost all my photography, (did do a stint with a Lumix Bridge, but went back to the SONY), if there is anything I can do to help, I will do what I can!

IMO it's a good entry level DSLR, and once you get used to it I'm sure you WILL get good photos.

I use an 18-70 lens mostly, but occasionally stick a 75-300 on.

    cheers
    Rob

    Hi Wayne
From someone who has made that journey, persevere and it will pay off.

I can thoroughly recommend the tutorials on this site but don't read them all in one go as it will just add to any confusion that already exists.

What worked for me was to choose a technique, say using Aperture priority to control depth of field. Read about it and then try it and try it and try it and then try it some more. Once you are comfortable with how that works, move onto something else.

After a while of doing this things just start to fall into place and you will find yourself making decisions and changes to settings without really thinking too much other than how each change will affect the result.

In the meantime, when there is a shot that you really want to get, use the auto mode, there is no shame in that. Once you begin to master the basic techniques, it will open up a world of creativity but the most important thing is to get the shot.
