There's some great images here...

I got completely clouded out on the 8th, and also tried for a shot on the 7th...stood
out front with the camera for about an hour, waiting for a "sucker hole" where there
Moon would show through the clouds...no joy.

Did get some pics last night, but there were heavy clouds rolling by, and the Moon was
obscured, but visible. Haven't processed them yet (taken at 1:00AM), but hoping one
of them will at least be good enough to sharpen up.

Chris, did you do some curves to get some more whites? I like your post processing.

I have no personal experience with them, but Vinnie and others have always said that those Orion Mak-Cass's
are superb instruments, and with that 1250mm focal length it must be superb for planetary and Moon observing.

Asi: It was some great data to work with John...I've actually got a "preset" now in Lightroom 3 that I use for most
Moon exposures. It doesn't always do the best job, but it gets me 90% of the way there, and then small adjustments
to polish it off.

I'm planning to host a "Skagit Valley Landscape, BBQ and Moonshoot Run" on Oct. 8th, but so far there's only 2 of us going..lol.
A 35 mile trot across some mountain trails with many great landscape pics opportunities, and then a ridgetop BBQ while the Sun
sets (the ridge looks out over the San Juan Islands to the west) and we wait for the Moon to rise sufficiently for some good shots.
Should be a fun time, especially if we get decent weather. Bad weather and I'll just stay home..

Why is my photo not showing? I used the advance mode and upload my image from my computer and nothing.
I also post it on a free image web page, post the URL and nothing.

For 2012, the official International Observe the Moon Night is scheduled for September 22nd, so as of this post, we have just 4 Days to go.

On September 22nd, the Moon will be in Sagittarius at 87%, nearly full. illuminated and visible in the early evening.

If we stay with the "Shoot the Moon" on October 8th, the Moon will be in Gemini at 43%, just less than half, illuminated and visible in the early morning.

Of the two, I'd say October 8th would afford better photographic conditions. The night would be darker, the Moon just less than half lit, and you can go with Sunday Night October 7th into Monday Morning October 8th for the party.

I'll participate... The link says that the moon rise is at 12:30 a.m. on October 8th... Is the best time to shoot at 12:30 a.m. or does it matter if it is say 2 a.m. or 4 a.m.? (Whenever I manage to wake up and the sky is clear)

The moon was almost full last night, and it was pretty warm out after dark here. Should be almost the same conditions tonight. Is this an annual event or????

Seeing as it's pretty warm outside here tonight I thought I'd take a picture of the moon.
I would usually just post a Straight Out of Camera picture, but decided I'd take a chance and see what I could do with some PP.
Taken with my D7000 w/Nikkor 300 4.5 mounted on a tripod. f16 1/80 sec 100 ISO.


Can't believe it. I didn't use Auto.
