    Father and Son

I've been after about 3 months in my favourite spot again, shooting people in a gathering point of my town. This one is the first of the four (probably) that I want to share and hear your thoughts. In case you are wondering the father and son are the small figures.

Always happy to receive your feedback.

I'm drawn to the opposing color, of the steps versus the walkway, together with the 2 people sitting, with opposite color tops. The pier (if that is what it is) finishes the scene, yet the open water to the right implies there may be more. I do find there is too much sky which does not add to the scene..

Sorry but my English isn't very good. You mean that you like this treatment or not?

About the sky, I chose this arrangement because I find that it helps to keep a distance from the subjects. I didn't want to be too 'close'. Of course I may be wrong and the effect of including that much sky can't work properly here.

Nice shot. I also feel that there is too much sky. I was able to scroll down as I looked at the photo, and the more sky I took away, the more the subject(father and son) became dominate. The upper part of the sky is blown out and distracts from the mood. Hope this helps.

    Thanks Joe,

I decided to make a cropped sky version to see the differences.

Me too, it also moved the horizon off the middle of the image.

Thanks for the feedback guys. However, something is bothering me. I feel it has become too dark now. I would like to hear your comments on this because I'm not sure how well my monitor is calibrated.

I have to say Giannis, I did wonder whether, without the blown bit of sky, the overall levels could be raised a little more somehow.

Hello! Gianni, I like your picture a lot And I do find it a bit darker after cropping the sky...!
I just thought I d post my picture here... 'cause it has the same title! It's my father and my brother.. And it's also "Father and son".
Hope you dont mind for getting into your thread!

Hi Alexandre. Don't worry about the thread.

That's a nice picture you have there. How about turning it to B&W? I believe the feelings it evokes now would be stronger that way. Just a thought...

Interesting shots...good use of leading lines. I wish the people in the foreground had been standing in silhouette...or something more for a focal point. Just my taste.
