I have an Olympus SP800UZ compact at present and have just started an introduction to digital photography course so still learning. I've had the camera since March this year and really enjoying it but should I stick with this camera for now or get a DSLR?

Hi Samantha,

The answer to that question can be figured out by first asking yourself "does the Olympus do what I need it to do?" If you find yourself saying no at any point then you first have to find out why it's not doing it for you, then see if there is a camera model on the market that can do it for you.

Hi Samantha,

I'd say stick with it until you know why you want to change it* - looking at the specs, that may not be too long, as I don't think it allows direct manual control of aperture and shutter speed and it doesn't seem to save in a RAW format.

I suspect the course may soon be asking you to do things you might find difficult with it.

If/when you swap to DSLR; you'll miss that long focal length range though
