I love buying from local people advertising on Craiglist. When an article is available that I need, I send that person an email and ask my questions or just submit an offer. When there is an agreement, we meet at a parking lot or Starbucks and check and/or try out the item. One important thing to remember. I buy only when the person has also the papers and the original box with him.
