    Valley of the Shadow

    Valley of the Shadow

    El Dorado

    Gaily bedight
    A gallant night
    In sunshine and in shadow,
    Had journeyed long,
    Singing a song,
    In search of El Dorado.

    But he grew old --
    This knight so bold --
    And -- o'er his heart a shadow
    Fell as he found
    No spot of ground
    That looked like El Dorado.

    And, as his strength
    Failed him at length,
He met a pilgrim shadow --
    "Shadow," said he,
    "Where can it be --
    This land of El Dorado?"

    "Over the Mountains
    Of the Moon,
Down the Valley of the Shadow,
    Ride, boldly ride,"
    The shade replied --
"If you seek for El Dorado."

    - Edgar Allan Poe

And Yea Do I Walk Through the Shadow....

    Awesome shot, Mike.

Poe and this shot go hand in hand.

    Re: Valley of the Shadow

Thanks John..I had that poem of Poe's in my head as I was processing the image, and
the two just went together like cheese and wine.

Thank you Paul; we'll stop at this shot location on the 8th, it's ever changing..

Bobo...quit wishing... just get out there and push the shutter....I'm as much or more
a greenhorn than anyone, so it can be done. Thank you .

George, Terry, Dave; glad you like it!!

Have to be honest here; I am really proud of this image. I know it can be improved
on, and someday I'll get some righteous filters (have -0- at the moment) and then
maybe be able to draw out the shadows a lot more. Also, as we go from Fall to Winter,
the Sun will be rising more and more to the South, which will deepen the shadows quite
a bit. Hopefully the snow won't get too deep, and I'll be able to get up there around
    Christmas.

    Re: Valley of the Shadow

I'm afraid I've violated Donald's rule of B&W imaging by changing a color shot over to B&W, but
did want to see how the shadows would appear:

    Valley of the Shadow

Keith, Sam and Jinseao.....thank you; I'm glad you like it.

Thank you Bobo..PBase is a good place to store the best of them, and I try to keep adding
    new material as it's processed.

Fantastic shot. I love the levels created by the alternating mist and trees.

    Re: Valley of the Shadow

Richard, Philip...thank you..glad you enjoyed it.

Was just talking with my wife about how this shot might have been improved had I used a filter
(of some type). Only have a low-cost Tiffen UV Protection filter at the moment, and with the number
of landscapes I've been shooting lately the addition of a filter set is warranted.

Have been considering the Conkin P Series..any opinions on their quality/performance?

    Re: Valley of the Shadow

How did I miss this Mike?

    Brilliant shot well processed.

I think I prefer the colour version as the subtle hue variations enhance the depth for me.

    Well done,
