Hello everyone, i'm a complete novice when it comes to things like this, hope i'm posting in the right area.
I've always had an interest in photography but never really done much about it, lifes little obstacles always seemed to get in the way, you know the ones i mean...boy meets girl, falls in love, gets married,buys a house,Mortgage, populates the world a little more....anyway i have just bought myself a Nikon D50 and i must say i am quite impressed with it even though i think it 's going to take a little while to get to grips with it, hope to post some of my 1st pictures with this camera soon and look forward to any feedback or tips to help improve my photography,

Welcome to CiC, James. I went the same general course of events and got my first DSLR in February. Now, with the help of many levels of expertise here in the forum I'm learning a lot. Post you questions and photos and there are folks that can help you pretty much 24 hours a day. I look forward to seeing some of your pictures!
