Two weeks ago, I had a one-day trekking on the Apuane Alps, a really beautiful mountain chain. I reached the Tambura peak, about 1900 meters on sea level, but very close to seaside! Unfortunately, during the ascension a lot of clouds partially obscured the panorama onto the mediterranean sea.
anyway, the view was spectacular: the Apuane mountains are really white, as they are completely made with the world famous Carrara Marble (Carrara is a little city on the sea just beneath these muntains): this marble is white and since the Roman age has been used for statues and buildings. Made with this marble are the Michelangelo's "David", the Siena cathedral, the Marble Arch in London, the interiors of Manila cathedral...
Below a view on the way to the top
the road you can see leads to one of the marble mines
thanks for viewing!
C&C please!
have a nice day
