Waiting for Spring to really come!

I've been waiting forever for spring weather to finally come here....
So I went through some old pictures off my old computer to put on my laptop...and found this little guy/gal!

I hope he/she come's back this year to feed on my flowers again...I've learned some more about taking pictures and hope to get a little sharper shot!

On this shot...I was actually giving it that old "pollen" that fell on the ground...it grabbed it and started to eat it! It was pretty fun trying to take a picture and feed him/her at the same time!



BTW--someone care to fill me in on what this is????

... it's an 'orrible green thing. The kind that I scoop into a cup with a piece of paper and throw outside, reciting "Ewwww" as I do it!

It's not "orrible"!!!!
I think it looks pretty darn cool! It was outside already, but I wouldn't mind having it inside my house in a glass box to keep watching...I love how cool it's face looks..... Beetie little(big) Eyes!!!!

Ok...now spiders......those are "orrible" things..... very very very!!!!!

Judging by the long antennae I would suggest a member of the Cricket family. But I'm just beginning to learn UK species identification so I can't really go any further with this little fellow. Unusual flat top to it though.

Now let's see if I can find one of my big hairy spider photos . . .

This was taken last July - when I knew less than what I know now...which is much more, but more so that I can try to get a better picture if I see it again. I think it looks a little grainy...I think I used AUTO mode a lot then.

Now I try to use Manual or Aperature more and more.

I'm going to try some pictures in RAW.... I don't know a lot about Post Processing, so that may be a challenge. I use Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo X2 - not a lot of people use that so I'm trying to learn by books and trial and error.

Anyway - I have a Nikon D40 and the lens I used for this was the Nikon 18-55mm. Thank God I had my tripod by then!

At the basic end of things, RAW is just as easy as JPEG but you get slightly better quality and during conversion you have a chance to correct errors such as wrong white balance setting.

The only downside is bigger files which mean less images per card and longer download times but not really a serious problem.

I would advise converting RAW to 16 bit TIFF or another lossless format before editing.

Give it a go - it doesen't hurt.

I'm not worried about the size, I don't take that many pictures at one time to fill up my card. And downloading time isn't an issue either.

I'll be trying some RAW images soon and see what happens... Keep those fingers crossed!
