OK I know these look like pretty much the same shots, but the focus is a bit different and I was wondering which one you think is better

gotta be the first one for me, the focus is on the most interesting part of the flower and the colours seem much better

The first one looks best. I find three reasons for it: 1. the little white ends on your subject of focus stand out a bit more (could be the way you processed both photos) - overall this photo seems to have a bit more detail; 2. the colour overall looks better to me (perhaps a bit too cool, but that might be because of the comparison I can make between the two) - so, again processing I guess; 3. the crop works better in the first one, as the flower on the bottom can be seen entirely and is not cut off
