    Strange Creature from the Woods

I was walking through the woods today while searching for interesting insect species when I turned a corner and quickly looked up to find this strange creature amongst the trees.

    Strange Creature from the Woods

For a few seconds I just couldn't identify it - then I suddenly realised what I was looking at.

Well it looked real amongst the dark trees.

Love it, Geoff! To me, it looks like a giant dragon or lizard walking away.

    What do you see?

A huge snake slithering through the underbrush. Wood grain, especially weathered, is always different and interesting.

I was thinking some kind of dinosaur. But you named it well, George!

    Nice photograph, Geoff!

I think this is a subspecies of woodosaurus known commonly as pine. (Pinus mortus)

    Thanks for the comments.

It certainly fooled me at first.

Incidentally, I recently found a piece of well bleached branch which looked exactly like an old animal skull. It even had a hole where the eye socket should have been. I did take a photo so I will see if I can find it again.

A great shot and wonderful comments, the only thing I could think of is the smooth-back Sneaky Creepi Nuppo Nyou

And here is the 'skull' which I found in the woods previously.

    Strange Creature from the Woods

It was eventually identified as belonging to a Woodius confusii which once inhabited this area but was thought to be extinct.

Wow, Geoff! I'd hate to come upon one of those monsters in the dark. Looks like they could bite right through your ankle!

Had to comment on the mouse. Love it! Looks like me when I see a spider. Arachnophobia for sure!

Geoff, another great name and photo. Maybe the experts should ask us for scientific names? (Maybe not.)

You definitely have an eye for the cool shots Geoff, I hope one day to identify them too. I probably wouldve tripped over that and took a blurry picture of a crow. Thanks for posting .
