I am trying to upload a photo into my album. I did, but the album which bears my photo as its icon, says I do not have any photos in my album. Then I tried to enter a photo into the monochrome contest... upload was sucessful, but I do not see it anywhere.
    Thanks for your help.
I also tried to introduce myself in the introduce yourself thread, but could not see where or how to do that.

    Have a guess :)

    Hi Sarah,

As far as I can tell, you've created an album, but haven't put any images into it yet.

I'm guessing that when you tried to enter the MiniComp you used TinyPic? If so, there's one more step you need to do after you get the "success" message (the "success" bit only means you've successfully uploaded it to TinyPic) (who aren't a part of CiC) ... from there you need to copy the URL that TinyPic gives you, and paste it into your post ... if in doubt, click the help option next to the TinyPic uploader (or Help/Rules! at the top of the page).

    Hi Sarah,

    Sorry you're confused, if it is any consolation, so was I when I started here, which is why I wrote the instructions here;
HELP THREAD: Starting a CiC Album

Have a look at the bit where it says "Save Changes" (step 7), I suspect that's the bit you're overlooking.

There's a bit below that for using album images in posts, or use TinyPic as Colin has just suggested.

Regarding the Intro thread, click this link to take you to it, scroll down and below last post is a "+ Reply to Thread" button, click it ....

Welcome to the CiC forums from...

Well, I uploaded the image but it did not go into my album. Instead, it is sitting there as an icon, I guess. And the album says, no images in it. I will try again. I did not use Tiny Pic for anything. I have not yet found Tiny Pic. I am sure all will be well once I get started. Thanks for answering me.

    Hi Sarah,

I promise it will if you follow the instructions - or I'll miss my supper tonight.

You might find TinyPic easier, view the "use TinyPic" link I provided and all will be apparent.

    Cheers,

Hi Sarah, I had the same problem and found that after I clicked Upload and the upload completed, I had to go back to the Album where it showed my picture under Pending Pictures. If I didn't then click on Save Changes, nothing went into the album. Hope this helps!

I never saw anything that said Pending Pictures.

    Re: New Confused Member

    Hi Sarah,

There's really 3 ways to "insert images inline" as we say ...

    1. The first is to use the albums mechanism, but to be honest, I think it's the worst of the 3 - for starters it's very "clunky" (as you've found out) - off memory, once you've uploaded a photo you then have to move it into the right album - plus - because we're not a photo hosting site, the total space available to each user for images is pretty limited. Personally, I don't use this option at all anymore.

    2. The second is to use TinyPic. This one is pretty cool because you can upload as many images to them as you like - the down-side though is that you can't manage the photos - so TinyPic works best for "quick and dirty" inline insertions. I'll usually use this option if I'm posting an edit of someone elses work (ie something I don't want to worry about once it's posted). Because TinyPic isn't anything to do with CiC, using it becomes a 2 part process; part one is where the user points TinyPic to a file on their PC and then uploads it to them, and then part 2 is where TinyPic then returns a URL to that image to you, which you then need to copy to your clipboard and then paste it into your post.

    3. The last option is to link to images in your gallery that's held on a photohosting site (eg mine is at www.pbase.com/cjsouthern) (<- shameless plug!) - there are a few of them out there (flickr is another major one that comes to mind). The "downside" is that often they charge a few $$$ per year (some often have free "trial" accounts, but often these disable direct linking until the user has paid the $$$, but it varies). Using an external site is really the best of both worlds - they make it easy to insert images online (anywhere), but more importantly, you also get full control over your images - and can organise them into galleries etc.

When all the dust has settled - if you're planning on getting serious about your hobby, and want to build and organise a portfolio of your work (for whatever reason) - then just go with option 3 - it'll pay big dividends in the long run, and the $$$ involved is usually quite trivial for most.
