ACCEPTING ENTRIES: Monochrome Mini Competition #316

This is a monochrome-themed competition that is open to all CiC members.

ENTERING. Add your MONOCHROME/B&W image in a new post below. Make sure to change your post title to a name for your picture (click the "Go Advanced" button). Only one entry per person, and any tinted images should utilize no more than one color. For help posting images, go here.

VOTING. When this competition reaches 10 entries, a poll will be automatically added and any member may then vote. After 2 days, voting ends and the winner is determined.

Once voting begins, a new competition will be automatically started.

    Good luck!

Notes: Please do not request feedback or comment on other images until after voting has closed, as it could be unfair to other entrants. Photos must be your own, and never entered into one of our prior competitions. We also ask that only recently taken or edited photos be used as entries (in the spirit of motivating everyone to continually improve).

PS: Make sure to also vote on the previous competition here.

    Re: The Church

    Dear all

Can we just remind everyone that these Mono Mini Comps are for 'B & W' or 'Mono' images.

We acknowledge that in strict terms there are different definitions of those terms. However, these competitions which were set up and should remain something for a bit of fun as opposed to hard-edged competition (that's not what CiC is about). So, what needs to be applied is a test of reasonableness.

What is reasonable? I think we all broadly agree on what we mean and for practical purposes (even if it is strictly incorrect), mono tends to be thought of as the same thing as B & W.

In this thread there were, possibly in error, a couple of images that fell outwith that test of reasonableness.

We all know that a B & W can be toned and is still considered a B & W image. Or toned.

So, we're asking that everyone keeps to the spirit of the very few and not very demanding 'rules' that exist

And the important part of this too, is to remember that actually winning a Mini Comp was never the real purpose of them. That's why we introduced multiple voting. It wasn't meant to be about 'which is best' it was always 'Which ones of these do I think is a good image?/Which do I think is well made?'.

So, it's about learning, but in a 'fun' context. That's why there is also a new bit of text in the intro post to each competition, discouraging the posting of older images. That just seemed designed to try and 'win', which is not within the spirit of the Mini Comps.

If anyone who posted a B & W image in here wishes to re-post it, once, into a subsequent Mini Comp, they should feel free to do so.

    Re: The Church

If selective color in a monochrome processed image is not srictly monochrome, then my apologies.
Don't think I've ever used that in an image before so I wasn't really sure what it was.
