Hi everyone.

Mo here from the currently stormy land of South Africa. About five years ago my family got me a lovely little Sony, Cybershot camera in a desperate attempt to get me away form my computer. Good news: it worked. Bad news: I got a new hobby that often leads to me getting lost, falling behind, breaking rules and once, sustaining personal injury.

Since then I've invested in a second hand Nikon D80 that is a major step up and find I find myself with a fantastic piece of equipment and no idea how to use it (aside from big button make click) and no time between classes to find out how.

Then I came across this website with tutorials that are surprisingly understandable and a forum where people talk in understandable English. I just had to get involved. So I look forward to sharing my photos with everyone and hope that I can improve with everyone's help.

I hope you find that what goes on here on the forum is as helpful and sensible (most of the time) as what you've been reading in the tutorials. There are lots of people on here who are very happy to share their knowledge and experience with people who want to learn. All you've got to do is ask the questions .... and post the images for comment and criticism.

So, please do join right in.

Oh, by the way .....You've maybe seen that most of us tend to use our real names on here. It makes communication more friendly and CiC is that sort of site. Did you know you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

Wasn't so bad. Wanted a shot of my mates coming towards me on a skateboard and couldn't get out the way on time.

As for the name, everyone calls me Mo because no one gets the pronunciation of Muaaz right and I tend to forget no-one will need to say it on chat forums.

Glad to see yet another fellow Joburger on the forum. If you wish to learn pretty much anything about photography you have come to the right place

As to the personal injury sustained, I have tried something similar, except that I almost got hit by a bicycle. But I guess if you don't risk it you might never get that truly awesome shot

I think I'm the sole Nikon shooter on the mod team, but there are quite a few other members, so if you have any questions about the other buttons that go 'ping', 'clack' or 'dumph', just ask away.
