I guess it is time I introduced myself...

I have been a member of the Cambridge Community for about a week. I am retired, 68 years old, having a renewed passion for photography. I the 1980's and 1990's photography was what occupied my time when not at work. Shooting Kodachrome and Ektachrome slides. Some travel while on vacation but mostly nature and flowers. In 2001 my wife and I retired and moved to Florida. We then played golf with little time for photography. My interest and passion for photography has been renewed. I recently purchased a Nikon D90 so I could use the lenses that I have. I am new to digital photography and struggling to achieve the saturated colors and sharpness that I could achieve with slide film. As I mastered the ways of slide film I am sure with the advice from community members and trying and learning that I will. I look forward to meeting you all through the forum. Hello to all.

    Hi Joseph,

Welcome aboard! I hope you will find it a friendly place to develop your skills with the D90, a very able camera. Coming from a background with transparencies, is a good place to be, I find those who have had the discipline of "getting it all right" in camera as transparencies generally demanded, will have made you a very competent photographer.

Digital is great as you can see results instantly, but I am a strong believer in getting it right furst time if possible. Post processing is "gilding the lily" and helping to develop the best out of an already good exposure.
So if you have any questions, fire away. I am sure you will find lots of answers here.

    Hi Joseph,

A big welcome to CiC from me too.

With digital (as with film), it's still a 2-part process, with things like saturation & sharpness being fine-tuned (or even "coarsly adjusted") in post-processing. It certainly helps to get a shot correctly focused to start with though!

Don't worry, we're all here to help

Hi, my name is Sandy and I originally went to college for photography, ran out of money, and got a degree and became a teacher. After decades of part-time photography, I have decided I must do photography full time. I have a Nikon D-70 (Love it) but realize it has its limitations. Looking at the D-300s (wish I could go the D700) or just adding the Nikkor AF-s 14-24mm f 2.8ED or the Nikkor AF-s 24-70mm f 2.8ED. Lenses I have are nothing special right now, (Nikkor AF 70-300 4.5-5.6G and Nikkor AF-S 18-70 3.5-4.5 GED) but I have gotten some amazing shots with D-70 over the years. It's like an old buddy to me! Just found this forum and it looks incredible...don't know how I missed it! I don't profess to know much and I am open to constructive criticism, suggestions, anything to make me a better photographer. My current focus is animals and landscapes, and event photography (rodeo, equitation, some portraits) Would love to get into wedding photography someday. Please send me your ideas, suggestions, experiences in the photo world. I hope this isn't too wordy for my intro.

Not at all and a very warm welcome to you, Sandy.

First of all (and I acknowledge you've used your real name in the message), you've maybe seen that most of us tend to use our real names on here. It makes communication more friendly and CiC is that sort of site. Did you know you can go to Edit Profile and enter your proper name under 'Real Name'. Then it will appear underneath your Username in all your posts. You can also enter your location so that it does the same, just as in my details alongside this message. Then we all know where everyone is in the world.

Thanks for your comments about your experience of CiC so far. It's certainly a little corner of cyberspace where common sense and constructive help is the order of the day(well, most of the time!). It's certainly a place for learning, with lots of people very willing to share knowledge and experience.

So, please do jump right in - join discussions and, of course, post up images. I hope you enjoy being here.

    Hi Sandy,

A big warm welcome from me too. Don't worry about the "name thing" Donald suggested - I''ve already popped that into your real name field for you (no charge )

So when do we get to see some of your work?
