Really beautiful Mark!
are those HDR shots?
Have a look at that first one in the lightbox. What an impact.
The composition is brilliant for the simple, but very well thought-out decision to place the horizon on that lower bottom third. The sky is tremendous.
Thanks for the viewing tip Donald. Lightbox makes them look absolutely fantastic.
Well done Mark.
Really well done, Mark!
Hi Mark,
So there is life north of the Bombay Hills (we here down south were always wondering!).
To be brutally honest good buddy, I think that both of these may violate the "unwritten?" rule of local contrast, with the 2nd image perhaps being the better example of what I mean. Because of the GND we now have a situation where the tones of the grass are roughly the same at the light we're looking into (in the sky) - and to my eye "that just shouldn't be so" - the brain expects them to be lower, and when they're not, "something just doesn't look right". My suggestion would be to tone those areas down considerably (and maybe even desaturate it some so that it doesn't compete with the colours of the sky).
I had a similar shot a year or two ago ... I saw the nice sky, but the bottom 1/2 was just plain old green golf course, and it just didn't look right for the same reason. On that occasion I lowered the levels to the point where there was just a "hint" of detail (required several canvas printings to get right) ... hopefully you can see what I mean. Also, the purple tint applied to the sky should have influenced the grass towards the same tones, but this doesn't look like it's happened here either, which makes the colour of the grass seem a bit "strange". I think that in some ways it almost makes it look like a composite shot.
hi all can some one explain this to me. regards patHave a look at that first one in the lightbox. What an impact

Hi Pat,
Not 100% sure what you mean, but I'm guessing that you're asking about what the "lightbox" refers to?
If so, just click on the image - it opens it up in the middle of your screen, and with a clack surround - to make it easier to review it in all of it's magnificent glory.
Hi Colin that is what i wanted to know thank you very much. I tried to insert the quote that i was enquireing about but it did not work, computers are not my strong point regards pat
