That's a pretty nice capture, autumn in the midwest! I'm no bird expert but me thinks you shot a couple of turkeys.

The tail feathers, particularly on what I take to be the male bird, do seem rather brown and pheasant like; but I'm no expert on US species either.

However, they would certainly be well camouflaged amongst that undergrowth. Plenty of good colour there.

Hi Bob,

A couple of suggestions to make shots like this work better;

Don't let the AF focus on the background, easier said than done I know, but essential
If possible, wait until the birds are in a better joint 'pose' than here; ideally facing same way or towards each other

Wild turkeys (as opposed to the farm raised gobblers) are very elusive birds. It is very difficult to get any shot of them. Congratulations... I suggest using single point focus when shooting in a field of various grass like this...
