We do not have these birds in my area that I'm aware of. Nobody seems to know what it is and I don't have any bird books. Can someone be so kind as to identify this for me?

With the bill it has I would guess a Finch of some sort.I though maybe House Finch, but
the body coloring isn't quite right.

Perhaps somebody's bird that escaped. I assumed when you said house finch. Or is that the proper name
I believe I found it on the internet using House Finch (Carpodacus mexicanus)

It's actually funny, when I looked them up, they say they're here in quantity, this is the first I've seen in all these years living here flying wild, not in cages.
