Into The Sun - Did it Work?

I've been in northern CA winterizing the place and visiting galleries that carry my book and/or photography but also looking for fall colors. Not a lot of luck with the fall colors but went to Castle Lake in the late afternoon shortly before the sun ducked behind the mountains and got some color. This is a shot I took into the sun...just to see what I'd end up with. I had to deal with lens flare but I kind of like it....for the sun scatter on the lake and color. I guess it could be a mood image.

Other than the text blocking one of the prime locations the eye is drawn to, I think it would work well, Chuck.

    What Frank and Joie said

Better than many of mine, you have an interesting shadow backdrop

He has seen the light; I've been trying to get this for ages. Photography is about light, nothing else, so why not try to capture it. Cool shot

Thanks all...I came very close to dumping this shot in camera when I saw the expected lens flare. It was against the dark cliff backdrop so I thought I could clone it out without too much trouble. Photography is about light and sometimes you get lucky when you push the envelope and shoot into the sun.

The lake is a cirque (glacier carved) and is located above 5000 feet. It freezes over in winter and I've seen ice on it at the end of May. I don't fish any more but it's good for fishing.

Couldn't agree more - the text really spoils what is a great photograph.

    Hi Chuck,

What do you think of this as an alternative? To my eye, it gets it closer to the rule of thirds - makes it more panoramic - and kills the very distracting writing.

I think it's an excellent crop Colin. I was thinking I may try for a 10x20 print out of it. Thank you!!!

This is an experiment to see if I can post an image from my website without the watermark showing. I watermark my "for sale" images as a measure of protection. I am aware of the pros and cons of the practice. I am using a crop similar to the excellent suggestion of Colin and posting it before I apply the watermark. After it's posted here I will go back to the website and apply the watermark and hope it doesn't carry over to this forum site. Here goes:

NUTS!!! As soon as I refreshed the CIC website (gave it a beer) the watermark appeared.

Unfortunately, the photo is never stored here -- it's just a link to the image that our browsers request from the host If in doubt, a quick/dirty way is to simply upload a copy to TinyPic.

    Glad you liked the crop!
