Unable to open Nikon NEF files in Capture NX

Hi guys, just got back from my first outing with my new camera. As advised took most of the pics in raw and some in jpeg. Now on pc the jpeg ones open ok, but when I try to open a raw file in capture nx, that I got with the camera, it says it cant open it, yet it says capture recomends raw ?
I know its some thing dead simple but I cant do it.

What camera is it? You might have a new version camera and old version software by accident. ISTR Nikon software is downloadable so you might try for an update online?

Its a D90 and the software came with it as a bundle will take all software off and let the kids have a play

I don't think Capture NX can open D90's RAWs. You'll need NX 2.

Thanks for your replies. I will go with every thing you say. But why would they put this soft ware in a bundle with camera if its no good??? ive been had havent I

I don't think Nikon ever bundled Capture NX with D90. Heck, Nikon is so cheap they only bundle View NX with cameras.



If you have CNX, you can get CNX 2 upgrade at ~1/2 price.

Perhaps it'll turn out to be a good opportunity to consider running with Adobe software (DNG + Photoshop or Photoshop Elements)?
