OK Joe, I am going to bite. Of course I can't really make an accurate guess but the wild and crazy thing that popped into my mind is that it's a shower grate at a Scientology center. Please tell us.

I am NOT disparaging Scientology ... it's just the thing that crept in.

Smiles, there is a public botanical garden in Lakeland, Florida named after the family that donated the money to build it, Hollis Gardens. When there recently photographing, I saw this drainage grate. The color and design drew me to make an image of it. Couldn't resist. Now that I have explained that, your photograph of the bamboo was well done. I have that filed in the back of my mind for the next time I am near bamboo. Good job it should have won.

Thanks for your kind words, John. Nothing much going on in-camera, I'm afraid. Raw capture with Canon 400D; EF 28-135 USM @95; handheld @1/25 & f5.6. Cropped from landscape to portrait and thoroughly Topazed. I was walking near my sister-in-law's house in Nasu-Shiobara, Japan and suddenly realized there were many locations where bamboo apparently sprouted wild in a city of 100,000 plus population; so I just aimed and shot a picture.
