Re: World's most expensive photo
I am shocked that such an artistic group cannot see the deeper meaning in this image; an assessment of the human condition.
At the base; stay on the straight and narrow. The grass is not greener on the other side. Things are dark and dismal with the potential for occasional rays of sunshine . And for most of the time you are all wet .
Brilliant!

Yep, that's just what I thought too!

The actual location of the photograph, and an interesting video on Gursky.
Re: World's most expensive photo
That photo is exactly why i dislike my own country so much. It's full of dull flat scenes like these.
*Wonders if the buyer might perhaps be a very rich homesick Dutchman*

I'm just sobbing uncontrolably at the moment ... thinking of the potential billions and billions of dollars that I (and I'm sure many others) have thrown away when we've taken shots better than this and discarded them:eek:

Hmmmm.

What about this picture:

Seems that in some cases just a name creats incredible prices.

Me neither. When it comes to art, perception trumps reality everytime.

But...it's so, so, so....homely

That does it ... the next time I shoot a photo like that it's going to be for sale for not less than $100,000!
Re: World's most expensive photo

I think P. T. Barnum hit the nail on the head when he said:
"There's a sucker born every minute."
or, even better, as the child said: “The Emperor has no clothes on.” ;)
Re: World's most expensive photo
I wonder if you should sell your pictures for higher prices like € 10.000 instead of € 500.
Some people think "when it's expensive then it must be good"
Re: World's most expensive photo
I need to contact this buyer.
I have a bridge and some ocean front property in Missouri I need to unload!

There is a maxim in the Art world that if something is not selling, put the price up.
People are the biggest snobs when it comes to art. They'll hang a piece of crap on the wall and show it to all their friends, boasting how they 'only' paid £100,000 for it.
