    Rotating Flash Bracket.

I'm sick of shadows when I'm using flash in portrait mode, the position of the flash creates shadows, so I've taken a liking to the ebay Chinese knockoff of the Stroboflip VH2000.
    This is the genuine http://tiffen.com/displayproduct.htm...temnum=300-100

This is the Knockoff version http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Flash-Rotatin...3%3A1|294%3A50

As you can see, the price difference is enormous, Genuine is US$110.00 + freight, and the knockoff is AU$36.00 delivered.

Does anyone have any experience with this type of unit?

    Hi Bill,

If you think that the stroboflip is pricey, your should try the Really Right Stuff one! ... http://reallyrightstuff.com/flash/03.html (about 3 times the price!)

Thought that you'd have the problem licked by using your Lightsphere though, or are you having the issue shooting outside?

Another option to consider is a ring flash diffuser accessory - I have a collegue who uses one for wedding work, and swears by it.

    Hi Bill,

Back in my film days, I got hold of a secondhand 'agricultural grade' flash bracket, the kind that goes on the tripod bush and extends out camera left and takes the flash on a hotshoe above a nice chunky handle. This placed the tiltable flash head 45 degrees off lens axis and about 6 inches away.

Thereafter, it was just a case of training myself to always take portraits with the flash uppermost and the light was either above and to left for landscape format or above and to right for portrait, if you get the idea.

It was a lot simpler than these contraptions, but obviously less versatile.

Just a thought, but bear in mind this suggestion is dimmed by the passage of time.
Current camera has no hotshoe and the old flash is bust too, but I may still have the bracket though (for when I get a proper camera and flash again)

    Regards,

Yep had a look at the RRS bracket, nice bit of gear but way out of my price range.
Even with the Lightsphere, which is a great bit of gear, with inside shots I still get some shadow in portrait mode. No where near as bad as without the diffuser but enough to annoy me, I think the above lens option of the bracket will cure my woes.

No thanks, will stick with the Lightsphere.
For those interested in the action of the Stroboflip that I am considering, have a look at all of this page. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Flash-Bracket...3%3A1|294%3A30

This one works out at AU$73.00 delivered but seems to be a better unit.
