    Not My Pet

I nearly stepped on this guy while walking through the Blue Mountains in Australia. When I finally saw it, it had taken a defensive posture-not sure if this was a striking pose or just an attempt at camouflage.

Oh my goodness...that is creepy - and to almost step on it. What is it?

My best guess is that it is the Eastern Water Dragon.

Usually the snakes in North America that have rounded mouths (coral snake excepted) are not poisonous. Those thth angular or squared off mouths are the nasties.

I wonder if this is true on other continents.

Snakes are snakes - don't want to get anywhere near those slittery things. I never go in our tool shed again since my husband found one there last winter....

I'd be more afraid of spiders, especially the brown recluse spider. It's not that they are disgusting or anything but when you see one sitting on your shoulder it brings to mind all those movies where the archaeologist is sifting through ruins, finds the pot of gold, and then loses it to the guardian of the treasure. Plus, Brown Recluse spiders really leave a nasty formation on the skin, sometimes needing amputation.
