That a truly magical shot Cakey. The colours, the light, the mist, the reflection. Amazing.

Viana - Can I ask why you made the picture black and white? To me it has done no favours for the image. I know some things work well in mono but in my opinion this isn't one of them.

It isn’t black and white. It is high-key softly coloured. It is an “artsy” sort of picture, a technique used by many photographers to project a dreamy, ethereal sort of feeling. High-Key is often used in landscapes and portraits, especially weddings.


Some people—like me—appreciate that look, others do not. It is very subjective, like all art.

So ok there is no doubt this is a stunner, light feeling, mist colour very evocative, absolutely spot on. But in my opinion (and it is only my opinion the crop is not quite right.) The weight of the pic is dead centre with the darkest spot on the centre of the shoreline which bisects the pic horizontally. This is not restful for the eye, there is a little too much featureless colour on the right while all the detail is on the left. Would suggest you look at a 4 by7 crop of the right which puts primary GR straight through the apex of the tree and its reflection. If this sound like gibberish i apologise, I am much better at explaining with pics rather than words. Have done the crop and in my opinion it lifts what is already a great pic, but I wouldn't presume to post it without you permission. As a final nitpick I think if you check the shoreline you are slightly sloping down to the right, a minor thing but with such a great pic I think it deserves the details..

Best compliment I can give you is that I wish i had taken the shot. Problem is that here in Queensland we don't get many beautiful misty mornings, at the minute its 26 degrees C at 7:00 am, clear blue skies and am ready to dive into the pool. BTW Just to give you a different perspective of the different values across the fishing world, and I am an avid angler, carp here are regarded as vermin and anyone found returning a carp to the water after catching it is liable to a hefty fine.

Absolutely lovely. Magic like that is why I love fishing. The act and the atmosphere of fishing are more important to me than the fish I catch. Having a camera to record it is not luck, it is prior planning.

As we used to say in the Navy (I am paraphrasing to avoid profanity)

"Prior Planning Prevents Pretty Poor Performance!"
