All starfish are pink
As my ten year old niece informed me earlier in the year (apparently from a certain spongy cartoon character). I took an opportunity to arrange a small pile on deck and grab a few shots before they were safely released. Bumped up the saturation in post to pop the colors a bit.

Mike
I think I might have been tempted to either a) rearrange them or, b) get in much closer, both with the aim of taking out that relatively empty bottom part of the image. I think that throws the balance off.

Re: All starfish are pink
Thank you Donald. I need to get more in the habit of looking around inside the frame before I click. I thought what bothered me was the bright hatchcover showing through. I think I was trying to avoid cutting off too many legs, but there were too many anyway. Perhaps a crop?

I really like the cropped version. If the opportunity presents itself to shoot a similar shot again, perhaps it may benefit from a little more depth - if you lay them on the deck but took the shot at a bit more of an angle, perhaps?

Re: All starfish are pink
Hi Mike, what gives the starfish that otherwise look identical, such a wide range of color? Or did you do the color changes in post processing?

Re: All starfish are pink
Thanks Chris, I have some ideas now for when I get another similar opportunity.
Frank, the colors were more muted, all I added was a fair bit of saturation. As to your other question I'm not sure that anyone knows for sure exactly what causes the color variations. Thanks for looking and the very good question
