    A very interesting thread.
    Thanks for all those tips, Colin. They are very helpful, as always.
    I don't have patience as much as you do, nor the kind of sense of humour you do.
    I don't do formal portrait, but when I am doing some informal portrait and I get these weird expressions, all I do is, show the picture to the model and ask them if that is what they want. After 2-3 reviews things start to improve

    No worries

    If I get an uncooperative model I just tell em to co-operate ... or we'll just run with the security camera footage! Seriously though, I think possibly it just comes down to personalities and personal style. I'm pretty relaxed in the studio - I've got everything I need - I know how to use it - so I just aim to have some fun ... and I think that comes through to the victims - oops - subjects!

    Lots of good advice! I tell my people to move their heads/bodies closer to fill the gap... that it feels awkward but looks good in the image.
