Re: Sunset Storm Over Middle Bay

I really appreciate all the votes on this image. There were a number of well-done images in this comp that required careful composition and quick response to conditions. For this image, I was watching the weather map on Weather Underground (www.wunderground.com) when I saw that this rain squall was going to pass this location just before sunset and set up the possibility for this type of image. I quickly drove the 10 miles into town, and barely had enough time to set up this composition, take a shot to check exposure and set up Auto Exposure Bracketing before the sky lit up like this. This is an HDR image processed from 3 images 2 stops apart, shot on a tripod in Aperture Priority mode. Your votes tell me the effort was worth it. Thank you for the encouragement.

Thank you, Bobo. The funny thing about this is that I had been watching the weather develop, but wasn't sure if I felt like doing what I needed to do to make it happen, and then I got an email from a friend encouraging me to get out with my camera, and I knew he would be disappointed if I didn't try; without that email, I probably would have missed the opportunity and never known the difference.

What city was your "Blocks" image taken in? That seems so foreign to me, sitting here in the woods with my nearest neighbor 1/3 of a mile away, but also artistic in a way I don't visualize well. Nice image.

    Thank you, Rob.

I was wondering how you got your "Dust Devil" image; I've never even seen one, and I can't imagine it would be on the ground long. You even had time to compose it well. Well done.

    Thanks Paul

It lasted a good 10 Minutes, This shot was taken toward the end of of it, so I had some time to play.

That was taken a couple of weeks ago when I was in Hong Kong.

Pics from that series were posted here Stormy Hong Kong

Looking at the pic again just realized that the buildings are slanted right. How did I miss that!

Now I know why it was not posted in the series.
