I was told that the Nikon SB900 flash was designed for a full frame camera and that it would not be a good choice for my D90. Any comments?

Not a nikon user but flash is a flash and it's a light source. Not sure how it could be designed for a FF camera sensor.
Pepper,
Until very recently the SB900 was Nikon's flagship speedlight (their term ) and compatable with most of their range of digital slrs. So Chris is quite right really. It's a very adjustable tool anyway so I can't see any problems.
Do you know what? I'm an idiot. I've just remembered talking to the hotel photographer in Sharm el Shieke (Don't ever go there it's aweful ) and he was using a D90 and SB900 combo and getting some really good results. Swear I'm losing my memory.
He was a bit heavy handed in the Photoshop area though.
