I thought I was looking at Dorothea Lange images. That, I hope, is taken as a compliment.

Your straight, head-on, approach is very,very powerful. I feel we are being allowed to see into the soul of these children.

It is a compliment to compare these images to Dorothea Langs' in fact. However Richard, to do so we have to make a certain effort.
Dorothea "was an influential American documentary photographer and photojournalist, best known for her Depression-era work" as stated in "Wikipedia" with a solid knowledge of Photography.
These photos have been done in India at the request of the children themselves. I made a picture of the 3 and than, I decided to photograph - I hope to be able to remember never say shoot again instead of photographing - them one by one. I asked them to pose in front of those cases you see there. There was some evening light in front of them, in my back of course.
I photographed with the same settings can't remember but I hope it was in Manual
The idea was to make a set of the three. After the photograph were taken, they asked money. I said no. As there was a small marked just a few steps away I offered them a banana to the way home.

I worked the images on CS and Nik software which I have now in trial version.

BTW: I have always admired Dorothea Lange's photography. I just read her biography. She was a very talented and complex woman!

There is now a good opportunity to do a similar work under the current and future depression. This time at global scale.

But the plug-in eats much RAM. Sometimes the computer produces errors but starting the CS again is the solution for that.

I have 12GB RAM and my SEP takes about 15 secs to process and take me back to CS5. It's acceptable as I can see the effect of the selected filter before processing. I upgraded my video card to a 1GB memory model (Radeon HD5570), and that made some improvement.

It would be interesting - pointless however - to compare the time on both computers.

Antonio, I like these photos! The tonal ranges are excellent IMO, and they all have a 'gritty' feel to them.
Just out of curiosity, the children all seem to have blotchy skin? What's up with that?

The texture of the skin Brian, is the result of the work of a plug-in I was going - was, am I not ?? - to buy which renders this effect.
I liked - still do - the effect even if the children do not have skin problems. Well, at least it looked like they had no problems.
Perhaps the young body might have some problems on the skin looking at the original photographes... I would say that his skin was too dry.

Thank you for asking Brian. I am here more interested in making images with impact than anything else.

Actually I didn't! Is this also an 'effect'? I did notice the nose piercing and found this in contrast to the look of poverty imposed on the photo.
Again, I do like the images, they are striking, just asking questions

The fly is not an "effect" Neither the piercing.
I am soory if I have captured one fly instead of 4 or 5
