    Old Dog, Young Dog

    One of our friends paid a visit and brought along the newest addition to her family. I'm not too sure that Brinkley, my 12 year old golden retriever, was too impressed... Made for a good laugh when we brought the shot up on the monitor though

    There's a few more photos to this series. You can click here if you're interested in seeing the rest.

    "Go away you imbecilic juvenile"

    Malcolm have you tried cranking the exposure back a bit and then keeping Brinkley's nose and bottom lip area from going completely black with a bit of fill light? It just feels a bit too over-exposed.

    Might be the general colours of the dogs. I took the photo with +1/3 however because I wasn't sure the colours of the dogs and the brick wall behind them would offer enough contrast for the metering to get the lighting right. Other than that, I've haven't touched the exposure and fill - just increased the vibrance and saturation to to try and get the dogs to stand out from the wall a bit - but that might be what you're seeing.

    Thanks for the feedback - appreciate it!

    Hi Malcolm,

    I'm trying to learn a bit about Lightroom so took the liberty of practising on your pic

    The result after 5 minutes;

    Old Dog, Young Dog

    I'm no expert so I would imagine the picture could be improved greatly by someone more familiar. I hope you do not mind.

    Looks good I'm learning myself. What did you adjust?

    The blind leading the blind

    Settings I changed were;

    Exposure: -0.97
    Fill Light: 51
    Black: 0

    Contrast: +2

    Clarity: +49

    Lights: +9
    Darks: +35
    Shadows: -14

    I added a bit of sharpening also.
