Upgrade to Canon 60D?

Hi,

are there any relevant features for you on the 60D or 7D that your 50D has not? If I had a 50D and it was working proberly I would not upgrade it to newer APS-C size sensor camera at the moment.

The 60D has even more disadvantages:
- batteries and batterygrips that fit on older xxD cameras, like 40D DO NOT fit anymore on 60D

I don't know the 50D, but I do have a 60D and find that I use it as much, if not more, than my 5D markII. In all these things it is worth going through all the technical details and seeing if the model you fancy lacks anything that is crucial to you in your photographic pursuits. With cameras such as these usually they lack nothing and it is just how many 'riches' you want to pay for knowing that you won't make use of them much! So it is always personal choice and what suits you may be an anathema to someone else; just look at the specs for the different models and compare and then consult your wallet. What is the highest spec your wallet can afford is usually the key decision.

I went from a 30D to a 5DII, and there are times when I wish I'd looked closer at the 7D. My favourite lens for sharpness and speed is the EFS 17-55 f/2.8 IS. Could have used it with the 7D, but it only fits the 30D.

One of the reasons that I elected to stay with the 1.6x format is that I love my 17-55mm f/2.8 IS lens and full frame really doesn't have a comparative lens. However, the extra ISO capability of the 5Dii camera might probably make up the one stop difference between my 17-55mm f/2.8 IS lens and the 24-105mm f/4L IS.

Another reason I stayed with the 1.6x format is that I shoot with top line lenses and the quality that I get from my 1.6x equipment sarisfies my needs - and I am fussy about my imagery.

I'm not familiar with Canon's 50D but I can't imagine them producing the 60D afterwards if it didn't have improvements on their previous model. What I can say with confidence, because I have a 60D, is that is does have a Camera to PC outlet, along with a microphone, remote and small HDMI ports. :)

The 7D has a button which will allow shoting one shot in JPEG when you are set up for Raw or conversely one RAW shot when you are shoting JPEG. For me this is as useless as teats on a boar hog. The Canon digital cameras (in general) have print from camera buttons. I have been shooting DSLR Canon gear for over ten years and have never used or even desired to use the print from camera capability.

OTOH, my old 2000 model Olympus P&S camera (C5050Z) had a voice record capability to identify images. None of the 1.6x DSLR's from Canon have this capability which I would dearly love to have in order to ID my shots (such as identifying the species of Hawks I shot at a recent shoot) but neither my 7D nor my 40D has this capability. The old Olympus also has a two memory card capability which the 1.6x Canon cameras lack. I'd like that also.
