Re: moss in the pavers
Don't understand why 1/500 was needed for a static subject. You could have had the whole frame sharp with a much smaller aperture and a substantially lower shutter speed.

Re: moss in the pavers
Nice picture but I agree, I would have preferred the entire frame sharp.

Cool image, I think with how shallow your DOF is, seeing more of long path and having the end soft would have looked nice.

Re: moss in the pavers
Nice abstract. But either much more dof, or a lot less. Middling dof, more middling shot. Extreme dof, more extreme shot (which could be good or bad, but take the chance and see what you get).
Also, clean the detritus up. I find it distracting. Although an autumn leaf bang in the middle of the dof (plus thirds and all that stuff) could make a great image.

Re: moss in the pavers
Hi James! As an experiment, try a landscape crop to get just the in-focus part of the image, let the debres be a focal point, and see if you like it any better. Often, trying an alternate view of a scene can provide some unexpected results.
This is a good concept to use when shooting as well. Look for as many different ways to shoot the same scene as you have time for, before you trip the shutter. You may just find that a higher or lower angle, more to the side, zoomed in or out a bit, or just waiting for the clouds to change position can open up a whole different view of what you originally saw originally. Hope this helps!

Re: moss in the pavers
Nice concept.
I like the second of this morning series better.
Although I'd like to see the zig zag line in the center aligned with the vertical axis.

Re: moss in the pavers
Basically you are shooting a pattern here. A shot taken vertically and cropped to align the lines up with the corners would make more imact IMO. Another option would be to get really low with a wide angle lens, use f22 and place an object in the foreground and then make use of the lines and pattersn to draw us into the depth of the picture.

Re: moss in the pavers
I just spend 2 days cleaning the crud between the pavers in our walk way.
Why didn't I think of taking a similar picture first.....
Could have gotten a 'before and after' shot.
Oh well, there's always next year when it all grows back again....
