I quite like this. I'm always trying to do shots like this, and my LSW will come looking for me and say 'Rob, what are you doing?" I will reply "Shooting barbed wire, dear". There follows a long painful exasperated sigh which sounds like the end of the world has come.

I always try to get things like this as simple as possible. Minimal, in fact. Otherwise it can look 'busy'. I think if you want to shoot things like this (and I do) you need to strip it down (that sounds a bit pervy) to its essentials. Just my thoughts. BW might work better.

On a related matter. Why are there some threads that people don't bother to respond to? Just curious.

I like it. I agree with Rob on the B&W, I think the colors in the background are a little distracting. I'm a big fan of still life photography. I love to shoot an ordinary every day object in a way that makes it interesting. As for the unanswered topics, you're right Rob, I've seen quite a few myself. Only ones I tend to not reply on are those of a Nikon nature as I shoot with Canon but there are some technical aspects that can crossover

Chris, I agree with Rob's suggestion here regarding this image. In fact, it would probably be improved just by removing the very bright strand going up to the right.

There will be many reasons for this, Rob. It could be simply the bother - a lack of the will, effort and time to compose a worthwhile reply; or one might not know how to answer a question or correct/improve an image; or a comment or photograph might not provoke any response; or ones true opinion of an image or topic might offend someone; or, when an image or comment renders one lost for words, writing "I'm lost for words" would be a contradiction.

Actually it is because I don't know what to say; can't say it looks nice, can't say anything about the skill required because I just never think about taking photo's like this.
But when I see it, apart from the imagery provoking thoughts of Kosovo, I think, would it be better if it slightly rusted, would it be better with a damp misty background, would it be better if it was damp and a fill flash was used and a small aperture or star filter, but non of these thoughts are useful because I haven't done it myself and don't know.
I'm not likely to take a photograph like this; because I couldn't get it too look interesting enough to stick on my wall

It seems to me that what you just said would be very useful to someone posting a shot. I think there is a tendency on all forums to look at posted images and just make a few comments about them as they stand. But suggesting ways in which a shot might be improved is at least as useful to the poster as comments about the shot as it stands. And surely everyone can do that, even if you don't shoot that particular genre of shot?

Much, much better, Chris. I like the square format, and I agree with Rob that the colour was distracting in the original.

The weird thing about this wire is that it has been in the same place for over 25 years and hasn't rusted a bit. It's as clean as can be, guarding a military installation which has been vacant for 20 of those 25 years. Got to love the military who seems to adore leaving crap all over th eplace. Iraq is going to be a landscape of abandoned buildings. Sheeesh, and we wonder why our countries are so much in debt...

Most razor wire is made of stainless steel. They wouldn't want you getting lock jaw if you didn't bleed to death LOL

I would prefer the colored version over BW if the bright spots in the back were darker.
