    Cold and Wet December Morning

I tried a slight HDRish adjustment to this photo.
    Too dark overall?
    Look cold and wet?
Does your eye go down the river to the bridge?

    Thanks

My eyes work from the right and end up down in the dark area at the bottom. I think the steps on the bottom right do a good job in drawing you down to the river's edge but I just don't quite follow the line up to the bridge. Not sure that I get a wet feeling but certainly a cold and bleak sensation.

A bit dark for me I think - although I'm wondering if this would work if it was flipped around for us Westerners that read from left to right?

    Thanks Malcolm.
Looking at this from my wife's laptop, it does appear TOOO DARK. I wonder if the kids have 'adjusted' my desktop monitor again

I find this last image more easy on the eye, I dont get drawn bridge more to the clouds. I dont feel like the dog helps the picture. T he highlights on the seating areas does say cold and wet to me. My eyes finsh on the bridge. these are all casual observances. I like the scene.

Hi James, thanks for your comments. I can't believe you don't like my dog!
I agree Neo doesn't add anything to the picture for you, BUT he does for me

This image was created from a single file - I saved two versions to jpg almost two stops apart and combined them in the GIMP and added one or two other tweaks. How do you like the overall appearance of the photo? Does it look 'photoshopped'?

Nope, it doesn't look over-processed to me. It looks quite natural. This latest one is the best of the various versions, even allowing for Neo's walk-on part.

Looks natural to me also. I like the latest version too. The original image showing so much of the bleachers was quite distracting to me. Maybe a long low cropped image just above the bleachers?

Your last version is far better than the first one that was much too dark. Although the sky looks interesting I would prefer a 16:9 crop with less sky.

I think if you cropped toward the lower left you would get a lot more of a Fibonacci spiral leading the eyes into the bridge.

I tried a lower left crop, and I didn't like it, so I tried a 16x9 and this definitely helps focus on the bridge I think. What do you think? Interesting how a little crop can change the focus from the sky to the bridge?
Also I did a quick hack of the dog....

Would you believe I found that your dog balanced out the blueness of the sky? I'm actually quite partial to either of your last two edits - But I do think cropping some of the blue out of the sky has removed some of the contrast against the orange on the right so I think I prefer the one with your dog
