As for the lighting. I just use two cheapish studio heads. One behind the subject (for these shots) has a diffuser box, and the second at the front has a white umbrella. The object is placed on a sheet of black perspex which is reflective. I get the perspex from Trent Plastics on ebay, and it's pretty cheap.

In the last shot I posted (Peeler 1) the black perspex looks grey because I positioned it so the white diffuser mesh is reflected as well. When the flash goes off it makes it look that very nice grey. Clever eh?
The actual lighting and shooting is relatively easy. What's difficult is having the ideas for how something simple and every-day can be shot differently. It just comes to me - normally after a few beers.
I think everything else you can see from the shot below, including the untidy state of my room, which I haven't tidied since I was 12!.
