Thought I'd start delving into the landscape and architecture side of this photography thing

Thought I'd start off with something simple... which I think turned into boring to be honest. When I was driving down to the beach this morning a large mass of rather ominous looking clouds was heading towards us. Unfortunately (from a photographic perspective, fortunately from my kids enjoying the beach perspective), a lot of the cloud mass started to disappear so it wasn't as prominent in the shot as I would have liked.

Anyway - C&C appreciated.

I'm not sure that you need any more cloud in that. I think there's just enough to give a good contrast between the cloud, the sky and the tower - the three elements in the image. I like it.

I agree with Donald and would add that the angle of view, perspective, the reflected light on underside, etc., is 'just right'

I see what you mean, Malcolm, the overall composition is fine and it is well focused/exposed, but it lacks impact.

For instance, somebody with field glasses looking out to sea, etc.

Or possibly show a little more of the foreground/background to set the lookout hut more into context.

The foreground was pretty messy unfortunately - fences, plans, and people all over the place that I couldn't control so I opted to leave them out and work with the clouds. I couldn't even get an angle with the sea without having a lot of distracting heads in the shot. I might need to pop down early one morning when there isn't anyone around and try again.

At least it gives me an idea for a new project - a series of shots of the local beach

Very good image.
The sky is beautiful. The reflected light has added strength to the image.
But I would like 3-4 inches more of those pillars holding the platform. It would add a feeling of height to the tower, which will not come to those not familiar with such towers.

I know what you mean and thanks for the feedback. I had to cut out of the frame a bit more than I would have liked due to people actually visiting the beach When I get motivated I plan to head down one early morning to see what it looks like just on sun rise.
