Candle in the air

I thought I would be a bit 'light handed' and attempt to take a shot of (not at) a candle. Please tell me what you think of this picture, or does it get on your 'wick?' Many thanks.

Another nice capture. I'd just rotate it to the left so the top of the candle feels like its level. I've got the tilting my head to the right thing happening again

Background wise, have you thought about just having a black sheet or cardboard behind the candle so there aren't any distractions behind it?

I think the backround is really important here and would hate to see it removed and the candle placed on black.

Obviously only Louise knows what she was trying to achieve and how successful that ultimately was but I think the backgroud works wonders ..it speaks to me of 'Medieval' banquets and women in long velvet gowns clutching goblets of wine.

As someone who makes candles and is an 'amateur' very amateur photographer LOL. I do like the photo, agree with Mal that it would look good on black, however I agree with Sharon also, the look of the candle and the wood/boxy type background does give hints to another time (medieval). The candle itself looks old, a tough paraffin wax candle, a little dirty in areas, so suits the background of the wooden box. I like it

I think the candle is just a bit tight to the top and sides. Would a tiny bit more of the surrounding background, whatever design, be helpful?
