    Re: Why Battery Grip

I have been shooting for years and have never had a grip. I carry a second battery (cheaper and lighter than a grip), and regardless of whether they were Canon or B&H store brand, I have never needed more than one spare (and rarely even that). I would just as soon avoid the weight and save the $$ for something that (for me) is more useful. Then again, I have been shooting almost as long as Glenn (I bought my first SLR in 1967), so I am used to bending my wrist for vertical shots.

In the past I have shot with a vertical grip which is much more comfortable. This is the same as battery grip but without the batteries and is a lot lighter. Maybe you can get one for your make and model, well worth considering.
