Hi Iwan,
I am new to Nikon, but one thing I have picked up is that the recent G series lenses do not have an aperture ring. So, on what I assume is a film body, possibly lacking as much electronics as recent digi-bodies, you may have no control of iris.
There's more about this here on Ken Rockwell's Nikon Lens Compatibility page, there's a bit near the bottom about F90/N90.
cheers,
Thank Dave,
I wil buy via internet ( secondhands ). That way I am not sure about the series. I think for F90 is Nikkor AF ? but nikkor Af has many series ? maybe type D ?
According to this page http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/n90s.htm#lens
all the Nikon 70-300 zoom lenses will work, except the VR on the newest. The VR lens will work, but with no VR.
I would guess Jonathan means the lens will be ok for iris (and metering?), but the vibration reduction will not work.
Best to wait for Jonathan to confirm.
Be careful who you buy from over internet in case not as described; e.g. damaged, not the series of lens they led you to believe, etc.
Regards,
Thanks Dave,
My old one Nikon F60, I give to my best friend. That way I bought F90. I though F90 is better than F60
Yes..I will be very carefully, I am looking tele lens more than 200mm for f90. I'd like sometimes manual than digital.....
Yes, I wil make first before I buy that lens.....
From the site I linked to, the lens will work fine except the VR technology is newer than the camera and nobody thought to add the necessary bits to the camera to make it work. Maybe the VR gets power from the camera, I don't know, but, like my F65, the F90 doesn't allow the VR system to work.
Thank Jonathan, now is clear for me....!
Yes, I think I don't need VR ! I will very carefully to choices lens. cause so many second hands in Netherland to buy it...
Do you any idea how much for second hands Nikkor AF 70-300 ? mostly undet 100 € they ask it....
The "cheap" or "reasonable priced" 70-300G is a lens that I use a lot. It doesn't have a fast aperture f/4 to f/5.6, but you don't use faster than f/8 mostly anyway with telephoto or you get no depth of field. Manual focus on this lens is awful though, but AF is OK. It has the old style mechanical linkage driven by the motor in the camera so the focus doesn't go quickly.
Ken Rockwell suggests that it's the same internals as the more costly ED glass D version, it could be true.
