I still have no idea how and where you find these shots when I'm standing right beside you!

I think that is a common occurrence (seeing something worth photographing) when two or more photographers are in the same area. I was reading an article about a photography group excursion. When the members reviewed each others photographs at the end of day, they were surprised at the beautiful photos taken by one member. The photographers secret, he stayed out until the magic hour while the other members were inside eating.

Kerry, I like them all, what kind of flower is the last one? My daughter goes with me when I shoot, and whenever I see her shots, I always wonder, whey didn't I see that? Again, great pictures.

There is an edge of seriousness to that comment, because I, too, am always in awe of the vision some people have to 'see' the image. I'm very grateful that people comment positively on what I do. However, I'm very conscious that I don't have the same breadth of vision that some people have and who constantly turn up these inspiring images that I, in a hundred years, would never have 'seen'.

I just would like to see a different version of #2 and #3 with wider DoF, still don't know if there will be any improvement...

I'm shocked to see that san Pellegrino water is sold also in Australia... how can be economically convenient to ship just water so far away??

Thanks so much for all your comments The flower is a native of Australia belonging to the Bottle Brush family of trees. I was wandering around aimlessly at home thinking 'arghhh there is nothing to take photos of' whilst 50metres down the road is the park which has a whole array of Australian Native bushes - gees I really need to open my eyes to whats around me LOL Nicola, yes, we get a lot of water imported into Australia, and I'm sure I paid something like $5 for that little 400ml bottle. Water is more expensive that soft drinks, petrol and some alcoholic drinks here in Australia. More often than not in a restaurant they will offer 'sparkling' water, never 'tap' water We like to pretend we're cultured here in Oz.

Something I have always struggled with

Project 52 for me will be the opportunity to learn more about the technical side of photography. Learning how to take a photo and then learning the PP of photography. The technical side can be quite confusing for me, its slowly sinking in, but I want to get to a point where I can look at my surroundings and clearly know what camera settings I'll need.

I'd also like to experiment with Still Life Photography and Architecture.

This is one I took yesterday. I think I took the same photo 50 times, but just changed the speed, aperture and ISO settings for each

No idea what I'm looking at here. but it certainly holds the eye. Nice one.

Hi Kerry, Great lighting and composition with the focus on the end of the Banksia, great natural colour, the only concern I have is with the background, it tends to take your focus off the flower with perhaps too much saturation in the yellows and greens.

Thanks Wendy, I agree the background is a little bright. Might see what I can do about that.

Miniature World.

So for Week 3, I decided to play with some of the settings on my D5100 which includes Effects. This was using the Miniature setting taken from the top of our estate and looking out over the Gold Coast out to Surfers Paradise. Its the first time I've used it, so have a lot to learn about it yet

Interesting, I had to look up the miniature effect though to see what it was supposed to do. I found some info here. http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/3964...-mode-explored

Looks like it might be put to good use to simulate shallow DOF. I've tried doing the same thing by blurring the front and back in PP, but I didn't do a very good job and Dave H. caught me on it right away.

Very cool Kerry! That is pretty good tilt-shift processing and even more amazing that it was done in camera.

Wendy, do you have CS5? There is a way to apply tilt-shift processing to an image with it. When I get home I can post the process used.

That is a really neat effect. I have seen it before, but was not sure how people managed it.

Thanks for the comments, it is a neat little effect. Would love to try it in a busy shopping complex from a second or third level looking down onto the crowds of people.

Sorry Wendy - it's not a feature built into the D7000 - just the D5100.

Thanks for the link Rob. Now I get it. I can see I didn't really get what the miniature effect was supposed to do. I thought it was just blurring DOF, which I guess is kind of what it's doing but now I know a bit about Tilt Shift too.
I'm not sure I can do this in Elements. I read the process and I think if I knew how to work in layers I could do it. Another thing to add to the To Do list. I love this project, I'm seeing so many new things posted in here that I would not otherwise get around to reading or thinking about.
