I came across this character the other day and found him interesting. Let me know what you think of the photo.

It was taken with a Canon EOS 60D, 1/60 @ f8, 50mm, ISO 100 and studio strobe with shot through umbrella. Post in CS5 and Silver Efex Pro.

Thank you for posting here Detlev :)
I think you portrait is just fine. :) Very good indeed :)
The man has character, personality and his face tell us a a bit of his own living experience. You have captured that in your image.
Perhaps, just perhaps, the image would be stronger if more contrasted/stronger more in accordance to what looks like his own Human experience.
But no doubt, it is a great image :)
I hope you don't mind that I have done an interpretation of the portrait. If you wish I will erase it. Just tell me to do so, please. :)
But this can also be an option.
Side by side to better compare the impact of the canvas. :)
Reviewing and reviewing ... I think I like best the second one, the one with the gray canvas...

Thank you Antonio. I really appreciate this and I will consider a border. I like the white one and also the tight crop. Again thank you very much for your insight.
Ciao
Detlev
PS: Here is another photo and this time I included a 2 cm canvas.

It looks to me that this is always the same image. And I can see that this one is really the best one. Or at least it is the one I like best. :)
You have not only introduced a new light - with Photoshop or whatever - to the photo but also a suitable tone.
It doesn't matter if there is no detail in his hair because the emotion is all in his expressive face.
Excellent work :)
Thank you for posting here Detlev :)
Previewing before posting: Isn't the canvas a bit out of the tone of the portrait or is it my monitor ? To me it looks too gray comparatively if I make myself understand that is :)

I do like the bokeh and the smoothness of his face. The light is great. Well done.
