I think what you've done to improve the look of the fog is fine to me. Unfortunately I can't really comment on how realistic it looks as we rarely have fog where I live these days so hopefully somebody with more experience with fog (ie everyone in North America and Europe! ) will give you some feedback.

Thanks Mal, I caught a link to the CiC tutorial fog, and I have a better understanding of how to shoot it. Hopefully these next few cold mornings will provide the look I am after.

Look forward to seeing them and hearing about what you've learnt from your experience

I took the family to Sandy Hook NJ to visit the oldest Lighthouse in the US. Here are some pics:

Wow, Ryo! Lighthouse pictures are fairly common but... an operational 3rd order Fresnel lens illuminated by a 1000 watt bulb and emitting 45,000 candle-power that can be seen from 19 miles out at sea is a rairity! Great Image!

I'm guessing the reflections are from the window in the lighthouse. It might be worth it to do some post processing to remove the reflections and make the fresnel lens really glisten!

It would be super if you could get that lens at dusk with the bulb lit!

Frank, the lens is in constant motion, and this example has a 45 watt CFL bulb. I worked a lot of angles to try to lose the reflections but the lens is encased behind window panes, that reflected from every angle. I might try to clean it up a bit in PS later this week.
Here is the rest of the set:

I really like the B&W of the Lighthouse Ryo. The white of the Lighthouse contrasts very well against the two structures that frame it on either side. I'm wondering though if it could use a bit more space at the top of the photo just for a bit more balance. There also seems to be some sort of smudge on the left at the top of the structure and I might be inclined to crop out the branches on the left as well.

The lens looks very interesting as well - looks like you had a pretty challenging time trying to get the shot that you were after!

Finally got to get out and shoot some cars, but for some reason I could only do details, not whole cars, so here is one of the only full car shots that I got.

Colors uploaded to photobucket are atrocious, here is a better example:

Any who simple edit, just ACR, level, then for the extra bump I brought up the Vib/Sat 10/12 respectively. To give it a proper Ferrari Red. f1.8 1/4000 ISO 100

    Thanks

I love Ferraris And the Ferrari red looks spot on.

    Re: Project 52 by Ryo

Can you see the difference in the reds? For me the one on my photobucket looks orange. It seems to have the same tonal range but off on the reds. In the tinypics upload it looks the way it does on my screen before upload. Any ideas as to why it may be producing the wrong colors? It used to upload correctly I wonder if I changed a setting in PS that is caused the color shift?

    Thanks

The first one is definitely orange on my screen. Massive difference in colours. I've no idea either as to what might be causing the colour shift - not sure if anyone else has any ideas.

Mal I discovered the issue, Adobe RGB Pro selection was set when RAW imported from ACR. Fixed the issue.

Took my son out for a pedal car ride, he told me he needed to park his car at the shop for repairs....
25mm f1.8 1/2000 ISO 100, slight crop and straighten. Learned this week how to set WB to a custom setting based on the day and shooting location. Also have a AF tracking setting that works pretty good for capturing moving objects.

    Thanks

And some nice lines for a good perspective. I always wanted one of those little karts as a kid.

    Re: Project 52 by Ryo

Frank, Mal thanks, I always wanted one too, so I built one for my daughter, but it kept breaking (I was just learning to weld) I bought the Kett for her several years back, when my son grew out of his radio flyer pedal car this year, he inherited the Kett.

The owner of this Daimler Conquest was kind enough to allow me into the back seat to grab some pictures. It was kinda cloudy and I was shooting at a low SS. I edited the first accordingly.

25mm, f1.8, 1/100, ISO 100. It was pretty dark and I wanted to pass on the effect in the first edit. Started with a slight bump in Sat/Vib, then dropped in a Curves layer selectively working the RGB individually. Finished off with a bit of selective Dodge/burn. With the dash board being real wood, I could not help but to do a second that highlighted the grain and wonderful colors.

    Thanks

Mission accomplished I think. That first one has an almost creep feel about it. Good edit on the second one, although I might have been inclined to leave the area underneath the dash dark.

Very sharp captures Ryo but I'm thinking a tighter crop on the bird would work better. And as for the fun shot - I actually really, really like that one

I think the fun shot was the best too... but here is a crop and JE, extra sharpening and masking to taste...

Been considering getting a Fisheye, it seems it would give me the wide open that I want in some pictures. So today at Coffee and Cars I started using my 14-45 kit lens, to see if I need a ultra wide or if I just need to learn to shoot differently. The result is the above, I think a fisheye will make a fine addition, and give me the flexibility to shoot entire dash boards, grills, and capture the whole car up-close.

Image: simple selective coloring on a BW mask. I think color attracts the eye to the right parts of the image.

    Thanks
    Ryo
