Ditto to the comments, just my sense of humor but the color difference on his head makes him look bald.

Thanks Nat. This was shot in a zoo, inside the bird house. I'm always tentative to use a flash on animals. I feel bad for them and don't want to blind them with the flash. Also, while I still have a long way to go, I've been trying to think more about the light and be more conscious of how my camera settings will interact with the light. I was pleased that this turned out fairly well exposed while still dropping the background to black. He was top lit by defused light and had some light from the front pedestrian area, while the back of the enclosure was a pretty boring grey wall. The 70-200 f2.8 is a great lens and has made shooting indoors much more fun.
Hi Bryan, I can't believe how far behind I am checking out these threads. All your bird shots are just incredible. The Vulture is something else. Beautiful and Ugly at the same time, amazing shot.
I like the ice sculpture shots, and even though you didn't get the artist actually carving the ice (which I think might have been dangerous for your camera ) I think it's a very good job because I can see the flakes of ice and ice chips from his work, so the story is well told.
Keep up the good work, I enjoy seeing what you might come up with next.
Wendy
Those all work well, Bryan.
A beautiful set, Bryan. I get the eerie feeling that the second one is in the process of swallowing me whole! Beautiful colors!
Lovely ... I am so wishing I had taken part in project 52!
So I can still decide to particpate??
Thanks for all the positive feedback. I've never tried growing orchids myself, so I'm not sure I can appreciate the variety and care needed to produce so many differences. The orchid were unlike any other flower in their unusual shapes, many seemingly having human/animal shapes -- perhaps why many joke about them being the root of nymphs or fairies. All in all, an enjoyable show with many wonderful sights and fragrances.
Absolutely beautiful what a majestic photograph. Well done in my book. Eye is really sharp, what a poser.
Superb Bryan. It maybe a comfort zone for you, but it certainly blows me away!
That looks like a real mean bird, Bryan.
Well I had the chance to shoot people over the weekend. This was only the second attempt, but we did have several "Models" (i.e. other photographers from the group) that were of various races. It was very interesting shooting dark complexion verses light.
I appreciated the stable camera settings and enjoying the challenge of getting to know the subject and trying to draw out their natural personality.
All were shot with Canon 5DII, F8.0, @125, with a 100mm Macro
While I intentionally cut off a bit of the top of his head, I probablly should have left more room to the left and move him more to the right of the shot.
And just for fun I had another photographer update my head shot
Hi Bryan, They are great, I think you would be very happy with the outcome,
#1, nice positioning, slightly side on with the camera pointing off to the side looks great, interaction with the subject, looks very relaxed, I like the tilt of the head, red jacket contrasts wonderfully.
#2 really like this, drawn immediately to the eyes, great lighting with the red in the gloves very enhancing.
#3 You have a nice smile
Well, not much to add to what you or Wendy have already mentioned.
#2 is definitely my favourite - you've captured a very intense look, as if he's ready to actually punch someone. Perhaps consider cropping off the right - I think that will give the impression of a negative space on the left instead of on the right.
Well back to animals. Lately I've had a fascination with big cats. The Cheetahs in particular are sleek and regal. They also tend to be a little shy. I'm not disappointed by the picture below in that it is a profile that shows their build for speed frame. Perhaps it is time to buy a TC or save for that 400 f2.8.
