Nicola - It is my opinion that the first one is a very well composed image. The main elements (tower, bridge, lights) are balanced and create a harmonious atmosphere.

I find all of that absent in the second image. I feel these same elements are competing with each other for prominence.

just this one below of this young fellow, leaves me one doubt: I'm not sure to leave or not this yellow cast. Jst to make the scene a bit warmer...
    your comment are welcome

Way too cute! I like the yellow cast but would probably bump up the exposure a touch and light the eyes a little as well just to get a bit more focus on this fella's face.

I agree with Donald. You also don't see the power line that runs through the second photo in your first shot.

Thank you Chuck, Donald and Mal!
your feedback encourage me: I saw the scene when the rain was falling heavy, and i captured a quick shot handheld with high iso, being sure I will be back. this is pic #2.
When I went back, it was a very cold and clear night, and I had the tripod with me. My girlfriend was really freezing, so I have had to do it quickly, but the result seems not so bad

Week 41: the most photographed man in Paris

during my visit in Paris, I saw many street artists performing their shows, expecially in the quarters become famous for the great artists that lived there in 1800 and 1900. Honestly, there was many beautiful shows there but, IMHO, nothing similar to the shows that a visitor would have attended centuries ago, like when, for instance, Edith Piaf sang in the streets.
Anyway, walking to Montmartre, I was remebering the painters that I saw in the Montmartre streets in my previous visits in Paris, when I saw a guy that impressed me much with a show I haven't seen before.

    Excellent, Nicola.

I think the person is a bit lost in the second image, but the other two are very high quality images.

I know, I shot a bit late, but I like this one because it seems to me that he is walking on the Church wall...

Great photos Nicola. I'm inclined to agree with Donald on your second photo but I can see what you were trying to achieve - it's a shame you were a bit late.

Just on your first one - the building in the background - have you considered playing with the distortion of the building a little to see if you can the vertical walls straight up? Not sure how easy it would be but it might be worth a look.

    week 43

I tried to work on a subject: "bending lines"
the subject was choose by a local printed photo-journal. I didn't post my pictures, I shot half a dozen pics and I hadn't got the time to PP...
anyway, these are two out my pics
    were these enough on theme?
    C&C always welcome
    thanks

Imaginative and Creative. Lots of mood and atmosphere - with the 'mystery' coming from wondering where these steps lead to.

I do like this very much.

    week 45

I run fast to the week 45 since in the 44 the camera rested in the bag
this fall has been very rainy here (after a very dry summer and spring)
so my weekend escapes aren't so frequent as last years

the only one weekend tour is the one in Portofino in week 45
I shot several pictures even if I was in a hurry because I planned a long hiking trip (20km on my GPS) on the hills nearby, and the sun sink too soon in november!

which one of the following do you prefer ? why? in the #1 is the left side too bright?
    thank you!

    Hi Nicola

That's a lovely scene. Gee you have a hard life having to visit places like that ! The colours are just what I imagine for that part of the world.

I prefer the first composition. I think the tables are an important part of the scene and they are properly in view in the first. The waiter adds a bit of interest too.

I would fiddle with Shadows and Highlights a bit - bring down the Highlights a small amount and raise the shadows a bit for those trees on the right.

    Nice shot

    Re: week 45

With the first angle, Nicola, I am a bit unsure about what is the main subject. The tables or the boats etc. But it is a good photo all the same.

Possibly, slightly toning down the bright areas on the left would produce improved balance and bring everything together a little better around the image centre.

The second one shows a bit more of the quayside so the subjects are a little 'tighter'. But I'm not sure about all that blue sky. There is little of interest above the cloud line.

So how about trying a crop from the top and left side.

Just a thought, I'm not totally sure.

I agree, a tighter crop can help:
