I can almost see his tail wagging.
You certainly got his attention that time Lovely capture.
Thanks for the comments everyone. It is funny to see that you guys seem to like the last photo best (at least that is my assumption, which will tie in with the rest of my thoughts). I like that one best as well, but thought that the other photo was better composed. A bit more width to the frame, nice lines etc., but of course it didn't show the head and eyes full on.
Interesting for me and food for thought.
Oh and by the way: you can see how difficult it is to get the eyes right on this one. My other Cairn terrier is blond and much easier to photograph.
I always love seeing some of your more creative photos and trying to figure out what it is that you've done. Overall I think the left half of the photo looks pretty good. I'm finding that the right half however is just a bit too dark - personal opinion though. Not sure if that was your intent or not. There's also a hot spot along the top left edge of the cube bit - which is something I've been trying to figure out how to get rid of with an off camera flash at close range.
Yes, the darkness was intended. The flash was positioned to the left of the object. The highlight was unintended though. I could have cloned that part actually, now that I think about it. I wanted to bring out the structure of the metal and that at least is visible.
The exercise for me in these project 52 photos is to use the flash in different ways. I might use the umbrella next time to see if that diminishes the highlights somewhat.
I have another photo that still needs work. Same series, but without the colour effect. No highlights in that one, so I might post that tomorrow or so.
I can see why it didn't change anything in the conversion The lighting works well in this one I think. No hot spots and a good range of tones that highlights the different textures in the aluminium.
Thanks Mal. The textures look fine, but next time I do an object like this I might use the umbrella on the flash to see whether it makes a difference. Or maybe I should use two flashes and try to lower the level on the one that is heads on, so that I still get that effect from the side.
Well, I don't have my glasses on but I certainly can't pick it. Really great capture of Boris incidentally - phenomenally sharp!
Hi Peter, I think Boris is very sharp, are we looking at the same thing, nice lighting on the face
Thanks both of you. Yes, Boris is very sharp, but the background was (gaussian) blurred and I made my selection for that around Boris. If you click on and enlarge the photo you can see the effect of the blur slightly around some of his moustache hairs. The reason being that it was very hard to do the selection there.
Luckily you didn't spot it, but for me the photo is slightly imperfect because of this.
