I'm thinking tighter crop - not sure if the space to the right adds anything to the photo? The brighter yellow on the right tends to pull my eye away from the bird as well as does the out of focus flower on the bottom.

That is funny Mal, I guess tastes differ. I left them in intentionally, because I liked the yellow. It brightened up the photo for me.
I seem to do the same thing with some of my macro photos, I always try to get some bokeh in. It doesn't add anything, but I like it that way.

    Project 52 recap:

I liked the Project 52 project that all of us started earlier this year. I do have mixed feelings about it though.
There were too many threads and posts and after a short while I noticed that I gravitated to a few Projects 52 threads that I visited regularly.
The others probably had very interesting subjects in them as well, but it was too much for me, given the limited time I have (divided between photography, reading lots of books, cooking, the family, guitar playing and work (of course)).
So, although I would have liked to see all of them regularly, I did not and I suspect that a lot of other participants faced the same problem.

That neagative point aside, the Project 52 was a good exercise for myself, as it obligated me to think about different subjects every week (almost every week, I did miss a few during the holiday season) and get out the photography equipment.
From spring to autumn I am fine with all the macro possibilities that I see, but in the slow season (no flowers and/or insects around) it becomes harder and harder to find something original that I actually like to shoot. The project helped me with that and I would like to continue with that in 2013.

A big thank you to everyone who has commented on my photos, every comment was useful and appreciated and it helped me along.

Now I have to think about a way to continue. I did notice that apart from macro photos and the doggies I do like to PP a bit in Gimp. Not to the standard of a Frank Miller alas, but I found that Gimp gave me some handles for abstract photos.

With a last photo from 2012 I conclude this thread

    Project 52 by Letrow
Nikkor 85mm Photo taken at F/1.8 and 1/60sec at ISO3200. Level adjustment and hue saturation in Gimp and one pass of smart sharpening. No extra effects from Gimp, apart from basic PP the photo is as it was taken in camera.

All the best for 2013. Shoot them up!

Lovely last photo, Peter. I did get out and take some photos this week, but haven't had the energy to PP them. I guess I'll limp to the end of the project myself :-) That said, I heartily agree with your recap of the project. So the question now is, what next? I'll have to ponder on that for a while. Not sure I'm up to another 52 week commitment. But maybe?

Thanks John and yes, you should do something similar probably. At least that forces you (I am speaking for myself here really) to go out and get some photos.
